Black it out. For real.

Blackbar redacts PDFs by truly deleting the underlying content — and proves it. Everything runs in your browser: your files never leave your device.

A black bar is not redaction

Most "redacted" PDFs just draw a black rectangle over the text. The text is still there — select, copy, paste, and it reappears. Court filings have leaked this way, repeatedly.

Blackbar deletes the content underneath. Redacted pages are rebuilt so the original text and images are simply gone from the file.

And it proves it: after export, Blackbar re-opens your file and shows that nothing extractable remains.

FAQ

Are my files really not uploaded?

Really. There is no server to upload to — this site is static files. Load the page once, then go offline (or install it as an app): everything keeps working.

Why do redacted pages become images?

Rebuilding the page as an image is how we guarantee the hidden content is gone. A page that keeps its text layer can leak it.

What does auto-detect find?

ID numbers, bank cards (with checksum validation), phone numbers, emails, SSNs. You review every suggestion before anything is blacked out — and you can always draw boxes yourself.
